Six Thunder Players and Head Coach Represented on All-Region Teams
The Thunder volleyball team captured the 2024 NCCAA Central Region Tournament title this past weekend, but some also left Kansas City, Missouri with a few individual honors as well. The Thunder had six players represented on the NCCAA Central Region All-Region teams. Junior, middle hitter, Jacey Schurle would win region MVP along with earning a first-team nod. Junior, outside hitter, Liv Lubbers and defensive specialist and libero, Abby Blake would also make the first team, along with sophomore, setter, Josie Mehl. To round off the all-region honors for the players, junior, middle hitter, Hannah Beukelman and freshman, outside hitter, Ellie Wilson would earn second-team honors for the Thunder. Beukelman has totaled 159 kills with a 0.378 attack percentage from her middle position. On defense, she would have 32 total blocks (16 solo, 16 assists). Wilson has 195 total kills with a 0.298 attack percentage from the outside.
In her 20th season with the Thunder, head coach Lauren Sanders was named the 2024 NCCAA Central Region Coach of the Year. She orchestrated an undefeated region record of 12-0, while her team swept every opponent within the region in both the regular season and postseason.
The Thunder await their matchup for the 2024 NCCAA National Tournament with an overall record of 24-5, while being ranked #3 in the country. The NCCAA National Tournament will be in Joplin, Missouri, which is hosted by Ozark Christian College, and pool play will start on Wednesday, November 20th.
