As the 2026 season approaches, the Thunder volleyball team closes out their 2025 National Championship season and 2025-26 academic year with another honor as they received the AVCA Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in back-to-back seasons. This is the seventh time in program history that they have received this honor. They first earned this award at the conclusion of the 2015 season and was on the AVCA Honor Roll in 2018, which recognizes the programs in the top 20 percent for their division. The Thunder were one of two full member NCCAA teams to win this award, the only NCCAA Division II team, and one of 10 teams to also win a national championship along with earning this academic honor this past season. To receive this honor, teams have to have maintained a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award. The Thunder will start the 2026 season with a double-header at the Thunder invitational on Friday, August 28th against Dallas Christian and Cottey.
