On an extremely hot September Saturday morning, the Thunder men's soccer team opened their season at home against the Bethany College Swedes. This would be head coach Scott Blake's Thunder debut. The Thunder would be overmatched by the NAIA team who were playing their fourth match of the season. The Thunder would be outshot by the Swedes 23-3 and would drop their home opener 8-0. A 3-0 deficit at the half would seem manageable to overcome, but the Swedes would pour on five goals in the second half to take command of the match. Sophomore, goalkeeper, Chase Powell would have six saves in goal for the Thunder. The Thunder start the season 0-1-0.

The Sons of Thunder will have a quick turnaround as they will play in their Midwest Christian College Conference and NCCAA Central Region opener on Monday, September 7th at 6:00PM at Frank Anneberg Park.
