Salute To Our Seniors

Manhattan, Kan.

As the 2021-22 school year comes to an end, we would like to take a moment to honor our Student Athletes. On May 7, our senior will be turning in their uniforms for cap and gowns. This year we graduate 13 total senior from 5 different sports here at Manhattan Christian College.

"Each of these senior are leaving MCC having impacted those around them in a positive and uplifting way. No matter their success, individual or as a team, when they walk across that stage they should be proud of what they are leaving behind," commented Assistant Athletic Director Mindy Eckert.

Volleyball graduates Grace Shurts, a four year outside hitter. Shurts was part of 3 Midwest Christian College Conference regular season champs, 2 MCCC Tournament Champs, 1 MCCC Runners-up and 3 trips to the NCCAA DII National Tournament. Grace is a 2x Scholar Athlete, was the 2020 Conference MVP, a 3x MCCC 1st-Team All Conference, 2nd NCCAA All-American and a 2x AVCA All-American.

Jordan Lewis, is the lone senior for the Women's Basketball team who played all 4 years while at MCC. A rollercoaster of years, she played for 3 different head coaches and a revolving roster. A 2x Scholar Athlete, Lewis also played 3 year for the Women's Soccer team.

In the first season of being reinstated, the Men & Women's Cross Country will have two runners graduate. Darby Cook, who played 3 years of basketball as well, and Andrew Will. Both were Scholar Athletes this passed fall and were a big piece in helping get this program back off the ground.

For the Men's Soccer program, 4 young men will be walking across the stage on Saturday. Angel Vasquez, Asher Walker, Dakota Fox and Kord Pearson all played for Hall of Famer Dr. Rick Wright. In four years this group came away with 3 MCCC regular season champs, 3 MCCC Conference Champs, 1 Runner-up and 2 trips to the NCCC DII National Tournament.

And finally, the Men's Basketball squad will see the graduation of 5 young men. Nate Awbrey (4 years and 3 years of soccer), Isaac Hagans (4 years), Isaiah Collier and Jeff Butler (2 years) and finally Jordan Marshall (1 year). Over these last 4 year these five played some role in the outstanding success the men's program has had in racking up 3 MCCC regular season champs, 2 MCCC Tournament champs, 1 Southwest Regional championship and 3 trips to the NCCAA Tournament.

"Truly proud of all the success these athletes have done both on and off the court in the course of there years here at Manhattan Christian. It's a testament of hard work they each put in daily to be the best they can for their respective teams but also be outstanding spiritual leaders throughout the whole campus," stated Athletic Director Jordan Strom.
