Recap: #6 Volleyball Sweeps #8 Emmaus and Faith; Captures Sixth Consecutive Regular Season Title
The Thunder volleyball team finished up their home slate with two Midwest Christian College Conference matches this weekend. On Friday night, the Thunder would take on the #8 ranked Emmaus University Eagles in a huge top-10 match up. The winner of this match would at least have a share of the MCCC Regular Season Title. The Thunder would sweep the Eagles (25-18, 25-14, 25-21) and stand alone at the top of the conference. Three Thunder players would have at least 10 kills on the night. Junior, Jacey Schurle led the way with 14 kills and four total blocks, freshman, Ellie Wilson had 12 kills and three total blocks, and junior, Liv Lubbers had 10 kills and one service ace to round off the attack. Sophomore, Josie Mehl had 40 assists to setup the attack.
On Saturday afternoon, the Thunder would take on the Eagles of Faith Baptist Bible College with the outright MCCC Regular Season Title on the line. A sweep of the Eagles (25-14, 25-21, 25-13), would give the Thunder their sixth consecutive MCCC Regular Season crown. With the win, the Thunder move to 19-5 overall and finish a perfect 8-0 in conference play extending their conference regular season win streak to 56.
The Thunder will play their regular season finale against NCCAA Central Region opponent, the Kansas Christian College Falcons on the road on Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 PM in Overland Park, Kansas. The Thunder have clinched the #1 seed in both the MCCC Tournament and the NCCAA Central Region Tournament. Information on those tournaments will be released next week.
