Recap: #5 Seed Volleyball Falls Short in National Semifinal to #2 Seed Arlington Baptist

Joplin, Mo.

The Thunder volleyball team went 3-0 in pool play to win the pool for a match-up with #2 seed the Arlington Baptist Patriots, who were the runner-up in pool B. The national semifinal match would not disappoint as it would go the distance to a fifth and deciding set. The Thunder would fall behind 2-0 before answering back with a win in set three and set four. The Thunder would battle back in the fifth set, but fall short to ultimately drop the match 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23, 10-15) and end their run in the Final Four. Four Thunder player would record double-digit kills led by junior, Jacey Schurle who had 16 on the night. Junior, Hannah Beukelman, and freshmen, Jayda Juenemann and Ellie Wilson would all have 11 kills for the Thunder. Sophomore, Josie Mehl would set up the offense with 47 assist, while Abby Blake led the defense with 34 digs. The Thunder finished the season 27-6 with a Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament Championship, NCCAA Central Region Tournament Championship, and a Final Four appearance.
