Recap: No. 9 Thunder Women's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season with Win Over Ecclesia
The #9 ranked Thunder women's basketball team would play their final regular season home game on Saturday afternoon against NCCAA Division I, Ecclesia College. The Thunder would fall behind 6-0 early, but would fight back and tie the game at 16 after one quarter of play. A 5-0 run for the Royals to start the second quarter would put them ahead 21-16, but the Thunder would respond with an 11-0 run of their own to take a six point lead with 4:13 left in the half. The Thunder would hold the Royals to seven points in the second quarter giving them an 11-point lead going into the half. Both teams would have trouble scoring to start the third quarter and the Royals would win the quarter by two to cut the Thunder lead to nine heading into the final quarter. The Royals would battle in the fourth cutting the Thunder lead down to two with 5:57 remaining. An 8-0 run would put the Royals away and the Thunder would win their 14th game of the season, 64-55. Sophomore, Macayla Hines would lead the Thunder with 15 points, while Nekayla Williams would record a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman, Tahlia Morris would score in double figures for the second straight game with 14 points. The Thunder would shoot 31.6% shooting from the field, 26.7% from the three-point line, and 83.3% from the free throw line. With the regular season completed, the Thunder finish with a record of 14-12 eclipsing last season's win total.
The Thunder will next compete in the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament at Calvary University on Friday, February 20th against a to be determined opponent.
