Thunder Men's Soccer Ready for Conference Play

Manhattan, Kan.

Only one match into the 2024 season, the Thunder men's soccer team will be starting Midwest Christian College Conference play on Friday when they travel to Haviland, Kansas to take on the Barclay College Bears. The Thunder face the Bears for the first time since 2022 where they defeated Barclay in the finale of that season, 3-2, and in the quarterfinal of the MCCC Tournament, 11-0. A seven game conference slate is scheduled for the Thunder.

Head coach Joe Lopez is ready to take on all conference foes this season, "We love to see that the MCCC has more teams this season and we are ready to compete with all of them. We have fallen in the conference tournament championship the past two seasons and we hope to get over that hump."

The Thunder had their most recent match against Union Adventist University suspended due to inclement weather at the 24 minute mark in the first half with the score tied 1-1. The home opening victory over Mount Marty University was the first over an NAIA opponent since 2015 as they look to continue building momentum from that win into conference play.

The Sons of Thunder finished 2nd in the MCCC last season with a 3-3-0 record behind Faith Baptist Bible College and fell to the Eagles in the Conference Tournament Championship on penalty kicks.

Friday's match will kickoff at 4:00 PM at Barclay College.
