Sons of Thunder 2023 Season Comes to a Close

The culmination of the 2023 soccer season brought a rollercoaster of emotions to players, coaches, and supporters alike. The team navigated through a challenging journey of triumphs, setbacks, and ultimately, growth. Despite a record of 7 wins, 10 losses, and 1 tie, the Sons of Thunder captured the hearts of fans and even opponents with their unwavering spirit and tenacity. After reflecting on the highs and lows of this season, it becomes evident that this remarkable group has the potential to achieve greatness in the upcoming years.

 

Coach Joe commented, “The group faced several setbacks all season, it was the group’s ability to adapt and confront challenges head-on that ultimately defined them. This season is a remarkable testament of their resilience, their ability to consistently mount comebacks, refusing to give up even when facing significant deficits is what ultimately defines them”. 

 

The team secured second place in the conference tournament, showcasing their ability to compete at a high level. Their efforts in this tournament underscored their remarkable growth, and even though they ultimately fell short, the experience served as motivation for the upcoming season. Furthermore, their presence in the regional championship game allowed them to gain crucial experience against formidable opponents, instilling a hunger for future success.

 

Beyond the statistics and rankings, what truly defined this team was their camaraderie and their relentless pursuit of excellence. The players supported one another both on and off the field, consistently fostering an environment of trust and teamwork. This unity created a strong foundation that allowed the team to transform setbacks into vital learning experiences. With an unwavering commitment to improvement, each player embraced their role, contributing to the collective success of the team.

 

As the curtain draws on the 2023 soccer season, the future holds immense promise for this exceptional team. Thunder Head into Central Regional Tournament

Manhattan, Kan.

After an excellent weekend for the Manhattan Christian College Thunder, the Volleyball team walked away with their 9th Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament Championship. Defeating Emmaus Bible College in the semifinals on Friday October 27th, a night they also honored four members of their program. Seniors Roni Harris and Dani Hepner, junior Mia Tapko and team manager Zoe Coffman. On Championship Saturday, the Thunder swept Calvary University to take home the hardware. 

All-Conference Team awards were handed out to five MCC Volleyball players. Honorable Mention went to Hannah Beukelman, 2nd Team honors when to Roni Harris and Hali Bloomdahl received 1st team honors. Liv Lubbers was named MVP of the Conference. 

MCC heads into the Central Region Tournament this weekend, hosted by Kansas Christian College. Manhattan will play Saturday, November 4 at 1:00pm against KCC. With a win they will advance to the Championship game at 5:00pm. 

The Men's Soccer team also competed in the MCCC Conference Tournament up in Ankeny, IA over the weekend. A very tough weekend that resulted in both games being decided with penalty kicks. Kicking off the tournament against #2 seed Emmaus Bible College finishing the game 2-2 but MCC came out ahead in PK's 5-4. The championship match was against #1 Faith Baptist Bible where after a 1-1 regulation score they headed into 2OTs. Sadly the Thunder fall short in the PK 1-3. 

Five Manhattan players were named to the All-Conference Team; Hagan Dyer and Chris Sosa named to the 2nd team. 1st team honors went to Cristian Gutierrez, Chris Smith and Kante Basubeche. 

The NCCAA Central Regional Tournament starts today for the Thunder. They will play against Spurgeon College at 7:00pm in Overland Park. Should the team win, they will advance to the Championship match against Kansas Christian College on Friday, November 3rd at 1:00pm.

Thunder Soccer Head Into Post Season Play

Regular season has came to a close for the Men's Soccer team on Friday with a 9-0 win against Ozark Christian. Manhattan Christian will now turn their attention to post season tournament play this week, as they head to Ankeny, IA for the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament. 

The "Sons of Thunder" finished out the year with a 5-8-1 record, 3-3-0 in MCCC play. This gave them the #3 seed and will play #2 Emmaus Bible College Friday October, 27 at 12:30pm. In the regular season, the Thunder split with the Eagles. Back in September MCC won 3-1 over the Emmaus and a few weeks later MCC dropped 2-1 at Dubuque, IA. 

If Manhattan Christian win Friday, they will then play the win of #1 Faith Baptist Bible College and #4 Ozark Christian College on Saturday October, 28 at 3:00pm in the Championship match. If they lose, the 3rd place match will be at 12:30pm.
