Recap: #6 Volleyball Crowned 2024 MCCC Tournament Champions

Dubuque, Iowa

The Thunder volleyball team entered the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament as the undefeated #1 seed and left Dubuque, Iowa still at the top of the conference as they were crowned the 2024 MCCC Tournament Champions. This was the Thunder's sixth consecutive tournament championship title and ninth overall. The Thunder would open tournament play with a semifinal match against the #5 seed Calvary University Warriors on Friday evening. The Thunder would sweep the Warriors (25-14, 25-21, 25-14) for the third time this season to clinch a berth into the championship match. Four Thunder players would record 10 or more kills, led by junior, Jacey Schurle who have 13 kills and a 0.765 attack percentage. Sophomore, Josie Mehl would set up the attack with 37 assists on the night. The Thunder defense was balanced as well with four players have nine or more digs, led by junior, Abby Blake with 16.

The championship match on Saturday would have the Thunder taking on the #3 seed Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles. Another team that they have beat twice earlier in the season, kept the first set close, but the Thunder would sweep the Eagles (25-23, 25-12, 25-18) to claim the tournament title. Junior, Hannah Beukelman would have 11 kills and have a 0.625 attack percentage to lead the Thunder. With the two tournament victories, the Thunder move to 22-5 overall.

The Thunder will now turn their attention to the NCCAA Central Region Tournament. They will have a bye into the semifinal and will play the winner of the #4/#5 match. This match will be on Thursday, November 7th at 5:00 PM at the Mathena Student Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The championship match will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8th. The Thunder are looking to capture their third straight region tournament championship.

Thunder are Top Seed in Conference and Region Tournaments

Manhattan, Kan.

The Thunder volleyball team has completed their regular season with 20 wins and are looking for more this postseason. The Thunder will be the top seed in both the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament and the NCCAA Central Region Tournament. The MCCC Tournament seeds are as follows:

#1 Manhattan Christian

#2 Emmaus

#3 Faith Baptist Bible

#4 Ozark Christian

#5 Calvary

#6 Central Christian College of the Bible

#7 Barclay (will not attend tournament)

Emmaus University will be hosting the MCCC Tournament on their campus. The Thunder will have a bye into the semi-final and will play the winner of the #4/#5 match. This match will be on Friday, November 1st at 4:30 PM at Pollard Fieldhouse in Dubuque, Iowa. The championship match will be on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:30 PM. The Thunder are looking to capture their sixth straight conference tournament championship.

The NCCAA Central Region Tournament will be hosted at Spurgeon College in Kansas City, Missouri. The Central Region Tournament seeds are as follows:

#3 Calvary

#4 Central Christian College of the Bible

#5 Barclay

#6 Union Adventist

#7 Kansas Christian

The Thunder will also have a bye into the semi-final and will play the winner of the #4/#5 match. This match will be on Thursday, November 7th at 5:00 PM at Mathena Student Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The championship match will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8th. The Thunder are looking to capture their third straight region tournament championship.

Recap: #6 Volleyball Take Care of Kansas Christian; Win 20th Match of Season

Overland Park, Kan.

The Thunder volleyball team traveled to Overland Park, Kansas on Tuesday night for their regular season finale looking to win their 20th match of the season. The Thunder would take care of the Kansas Christian Falcons (25-16, 25-10, 25-15) to win their 20th of 25 matches. This will be the 4th consecutive season that the Thunder have won 20 or more matches in a season. The Thunder were led again by the duo of juniors, Jacey Schurle and Liv Lubbers. Schurle would have 14 kills on 17 attempts and zero errors, while Lubbers would have 10 kills on the evening. The Thunder would only commit six attack errors as a team to hit 0.406. Junior, Abby Blake would lead the team on the defensive side with 21 digs. With the win, the Thunder move to 20-5 overall and a perfect 12-0 in NCCAA Central Region play.

The Thunder will start postseason play on Friday at the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament, where they are the #1 seed, that will be hosted by Emmaus University in Dubuque, Iowa. They will play the winner of the #4/#5 match between Ozark Christian and Calvary on Friday, November 1st at 5:00 PM. Depending on the result of Friday's match, they will either play at 12:15 PM or 2:30 PM on Saturday, November 2nd. More information on the MCCC Tournament, as well as the NCCAA Central Region Tournament, will be released later this week.

Recap: #6 Volleyball Sweeps #8 Emmaus and Faith; Captures Sixth Consecutive Regular Season Title

The Thunder volleyball team finished up their home slate with two Midwest Christian College Conference matches this weekend. On Friday night, the Thunder would take on the #8 ranked Emmaus University Eagles in a huge top-10 match up. The winner of this match would at least have a share of the MCCC Regular Season Title. The Thunder would sweep the Eagles (25-18, 25-14, 25-21) and stand alone at the top of the conference. Three Thunder players would have at least 10 kills on the night. Junior, Jacey Schurle led the way with 14 kills and four total blocks, freshman, Ellie Wilson had 12 kills and three total blocks, and junior, Liv Lubbers had 10 kills and one service ace to round off the attack. Sophomore, Josie Mehl had 40 assists to setup the attack.

On Saturday afternoon, the Thunder would take on the Eagles of Faith Baptist Bible College with the outright MCCC Regular Season Title on the line. A sweep of the Eagles (25-14, 25-21, 25-13), would give the Thunder their sixth consecutive MCCC Regular Season crown. With the win, the Thunder move to 19-5 overall and finish a perfect 8-0 in conference play extending their conference regular season win streak to 56.

The Thunder will play their regular season finale against NCCAA Central Region opponent, the Kansas Christian College Falcons on the road on Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 PM in Overland Park, Kansas. The Thunder have clinched the #1 seed in both the MCCC Tournament and the NCCAA Central Region Tournament. Information on those tournaments will be released next week.

Recap: #6 Volleyball Takes Down Barclay in Straight Sets

Manhattan, Kan.

The Thunder volleyball team returned to action on Tuesday evening when they hosted the Barclay College Bears. The Thunder would make quick work of the Bears taking them down in straight sets (25-9, 25-4, 25-13). A balanced and consistent attack by the Thunder led by freshman, Ellie Wilson and junior, Hannah Beukelman who combined for 18 kills on 31 attempts and only one error. As a team, the Thunder would only make three attack error on 81 attempts to hit a staggering 0.481. Sophomores, Jozie Kanode and Jaiden Brewer would both have four services a piece to contribute to the scoring. With the Midwest Christian College Conference win, the Thunder are now 6-0 in the conference and 17-5 overall.

The Thunder will have a big top-10, MCCC match up on Friday, October 25th against the #8 ranked Emmaus University Eagles at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, October 26th, the Thunder will play their home and conference finale against the Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles at 1:00 PM. Both matches will be at Howie's Activity Center.

Thunder Volleyball Hold Steady at #6 in Current NCCAA Coaches' Poll

Manhattan, Kan.

The fourth National Christian College Athletic Association Coaches' Poll of the season for DII Women's Volleyball has been released and the Thunder hold steady at #6. The Thunder have won five straight since the last coaches' poll was announced on October 8th. The Thunder look to finish their season strong as they have four more matches before postseason play begins. The Thunder sit at 16-5 overall, 5-0 in the Midwest Christian College Conference, and 10-0 in NCCAA Central Region play. For the full top-10 rankings for DII Women's Volleyball, click this link.

The Thunder will host the Barclay College Bears tonight in a MCCC match at 6:00 PM. They will finish conference play on Friday, October 25th with a top-10 match against the #8 Emmaus University Eagles and on Saturday, October 26th against the Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles. These matches will be at 7:00 PM and 1:00 PM, respectively, at Howie's Activity Center.

Recap: #6 Volleyball Wins Neutral Site Match Against CCCB

Kansas City, Mo.

The Thunder volleyball team traveled to Kansas City, Missouri to take on the Central Christian College of the Bible Saints in a non-conference match. The Thunder would win the match by way of sweep (25-2, 25-12, 25-10). This match would not be considered a Midwest Christian College Conference contest, but would still count as a NCCAA Central Region match. The Thunder would dominate the first set as freshman, Natalie Jensen would serve 19 times in a row with four being aces to take the early one set lead. Jensen would finish the match with 31 service attempts and six aces. As a team, the Thunder would have a 0.420 attack percentage, led by junior, Jacey Schurle who had eight kills on 10 attempts for a 0.800 attack percentage. Freshman, Ellie Wilson would lead the attack with 11 kills. Also, NCCAA All-American, junior, Hali Clark, who missed the first 20 matches of the season due to injury, recorded her first kill of the season. With their fifth straight win, the Thunder improve to 16-5 on the season and 10-0 in NCCAA Central Region play.

The Thunder will finish MCCC play with three home matches next week. They will host the Barclay College Bears on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:00 PM at Howie's Activity Center.

Recap: #6 Volleyball Tops Spurgeon

The Thunder volleyball team returned home for the first time in 25 days to take on the Spurgeon College Knights on Tuesday evening. The Thunder topped the visiting Knights in straight sets (25-12, 25-14, 25-12) to improve to 15-5 on the season and 9-0 in NCCAA Central Region play.

The Thunder will head to Kansas City, Missouri for a neutral site, non-Midwest Christian College Conference match against the Central Christian College of the Bible Saints on Saturday, October 19th at 1:00 PM at Mathena Student Center on the campus of Spurgeon College.

Recap: #6 Volleyball Finishes Road Swing with Two Wins in Missouri

Joplin, Mo.

The Thunder volleyball team would finish off their road swing in Missouri on Friday and Saturday and will come home with two wins. The #6 ranked Thunder would travel to Nevada, Missouri on Friday to take on NAIA and AMC member, the Cottey College Comets. The Comets would take the first set, but the Thunder would rally to take the final three sets (22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22) to win the match, 3-1. The Thunder would have five players with at least nine kills led by junior, Liv Lubbers with 16. Junior, Jacey Schurle would stuff the stat sheet with 14 kills, two service aces, and three solo blocks. Josie Mehl would have 57 assists for the Thunder.

On Saturday, the Thunder would travel south to Joplin to take on Midwest Christian Conference rival, the Ozark Christian College Ambassadors. The Thunder would take the first two sets, the Ambassadors took the third, and the fourth went to the Thunder (25-17, 25-11, 25-27, 25-13) to take the match, 3-1. Lubbers would lead the offense again with 15 kills, while freshman, Jeydan Umberger would chip in with three kills on seven attempts for a 0.429 attack percentage. As a team, the Thunder would have 11 services aces, while on the defensive side, everyone who played a set had at least one dig. With the two victories, the Thunder improve to 14-5 overall and 6-0 in the MCCC.

The Thunder will return home for the first time since September 20th with a NCCAA Central Region match against the Spurgeon College Knights on Tuesday, October 15th at 7:00 PM at Howie's Activity Center.

Recap: #6 Volleyball Rebounds with Win Over Barclay

Haviland, Kan.

After a tough four game stretch, the #6 ranked Thunder volleyball team needed a rebound win and they did just that on Tuesday night with a win by sweep (25-15, 25-20, 25-9) over Midwest Christian College Conference opponent, the Barclay Bears. With the win, the Thunder improve to 12-5 overall and 5-0 in the MCCC.

The Thunder will finish off the road swing this weekend when they travel to Missouri to take on NAIA and AMC member, the Cottey College Comets, and MCCC rivals, the Ozark Christian College Ambassadors. The Thunder will battle the Comets on Friday, October 11th at 6:00 PM in Nevada, Missouri before traveling to Joplin on Saturday, October 12th to take on the Ambassadors at 1:00 PM.
