Thunder Women's Basketball Announces 2025 Recruiting Class

Manhattan, Kan.

The Thunder women's basketball staff have completed their 2025 recruiting class and have signed nine total newcomers that include three transfers, two junior college transfers and two NCCAA transfers, and six high school seniors. The newest Thunder women's basketball student-athletes are:

TRANSFERS

Atira Davis - 5'6, Senior, Guard - Central Christian College of the Bible

Led the Saints to 22 wins in two seasons in 2021-22 and 2023-24. Played the 2022-23 season at Pasadena City College in Pasadena, California. In 2023-24, Davis played in all 29 games for the Saints. Davis averaged 21.3 minutes per game and 7.6 points on 30.0% shooting from the field, including 24.3% from the 3-point line, to go along with 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 steals. She also shot 61.3% from the free throw line. Prepped at Siegel High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Elayna Spilker - 5'5, Junior, Guard

Prepped at Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kansas.

Toni Thomas - 5'5, Sophomore, Guard - North Country Community College

Played for the Saints in 2023-24. Thomas played in 10 games for the Saints. Thomas averaged 13.2 minutes per games and 0.9 points on 21.4% shooting from the field, to go along with 1.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Prepped at Bolton High School, now known as Bolton Academy Academic & Performing Arts Magnet School, in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Cortnea Wagner - 5'10, Redshirt-Junior, Forward - Randall University

Led the Saints to 32 wins in three seasons. Did not play in 2022-23 and only played in seven games in 2024-25. In 2023-24, Wagner played in all 28 games and started in 12 for the Saints. Wagner averaged 13.4 minutes per game and 10.3 points on 47.3% shooting from the field, including 28.6% from the 3-point line, to go along with 6.4 rebounds. She also shot 83.3% from the free throw line. Prepped at Oklahoma Christian Academy in Edmond, Oklahoma.

 

FRESHMAN

Katie Drake - 5'11, Freshman, Center - Hastings High School (NE)

Led the Tigers to four wins as a senior. Named NCPA Academic All-State and EMC Academic All-Conference as a senior. Will play both volleyball and basketball at MCC.

Jasmine Holloway - 5'2, Freshman, Guard - Monterey High School (TX)

Led the Plainsmen to a 37-5 record and an UIL Texas 5A Divison II State Championship as a senior. Holloway averaged 2.1 points per game on 31.8% shooting from the field, including 33.3% from the 3-point line. She also shot 100.0% from the free throw line.

Mackenzie Lovett - 5'9, Freshman, Guard - KIPP Tulsa University Prep High School (OK)

Led the Bulldogs to a 16-10 record as a senior. In four stated games, Lovett averaged 12.5 points per game on 44.7% shooting from the field, to go along with 4.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 3.0 steals. She also shot 66.7% from the free throw line. Sister of former MCC men's basketball student-athlete, Micah Lovett.

Tatum Milenski - 5'4, Freshman, Guard - Lamar High School (CO)

Led the Thunder to a 19-6 record as a senior. Milenski averaged 8.3 points per game on 30.4% shooting from the field, including 28.2% from the 3-point line, to go along with 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 4.0 steals. She also shot 66.7% from the free throw line.

Tahlia Morris - 5'10, Freshman, Forward - Salina Central High School (KS)

Led the Mustangs to a 10-10 record as a senior. Morris led the Mustangs in points scored. Named AVCTL Division II All-League Honorable Mention. Also lettered in track and field at Salina Central.

 

Head coach Dalton Miller had this to say about her most recent recruiting class, "This class reflects on our commitment to building something lasting, something sustainable. We brought in athletes who not only compete at a high level but represent our values off the court as well. There was a purpose in getting each of our incoming players, to combine this class with our returners is a team that I’m eager to watch challenge each other and compete alongside one another. Thanks to each players commitment, I’m excited about not just this season but the future of our women’s basketball program."

The Thunder will release their 2025-26 schedule next week.

Thunder Look to Build on Successful Season

Manhattan, Kan.

The Thunder women's basketball team took a major step forward this season under first year head coach Dalton Miller. Just over a year ago, the athletic department decided to cancel the second half the women's basketball team's season. They finished 0-7. Miller had the task of putting together a team to compete on the court and he did just that. The Thunder would win 13 games, the most since the 2017-18 season and more than the last three seasons combined, and play in the NCCAA Central Region Tournament Championship game.

The Thunder were led in scoring and rebounding by junior, forward, Nekayla Williams who averaged 14.3 points and 8.1 rebounds in 22.4 minutes per game. Williams would also be named to the Midwest Christian College Conference second team and Central Region first team. Freshman, guard, Macayla Hines would do a little bit of everything for the Thunder as she averaged 10.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.2 steals in 31.5 minutes per game. Hines would also make both conference and region teams earning honorable mention and second team honors, respectively. The final student-athlete to earn honors was freshman, guard, Elayna Wegner who earned region honorable mention honors. Wegner averaged 8.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.6 steals in 30.4 minutes per game on the season. Senior, forward Karlee Wahlmeier would lead the team in field goal percentage shooting 50.8% from the field, to go along with 3.5 points and 2.6 rebounds. Freshman, guard, Austyn Cox would lead the team in free throw percentage shooting 66.7% from the line, while averaging 6.9 points.

Miller had this to say about his team's season, "There are so many positives to take away from this season. It all started with Karlee Walhmeier and Madison Ellis making the decision to return. This program needed commitment and those two lead the charge with that. Add in our transfer, Nekayla Williams, to the mix to take on a major scoring role, surrounded by freshmen who are going to be forced to grow up with every opportunity on the floor. I could name all nine players on the roster and list every way they each impacted this team on the floor. Not only were we a young team, we were a brand new team trying to figure out where each piece fit. It was challenging, but they overcame each challenge and learned how to win together. They bought in, they believed that every time we step on the floor we can find a way to win. This season made us tougher, I'm extremely proud of what we accomplished in such a short time together, and I cannot wait to continue to build on the success we saw this season."

Recap: Women's Basketball Wins Central Region Tournament Semifinal Game; Falls Short in Region Championship

Belton, Mo.

The Thunder women's basketball team entered the NCCAA Central Region Tournament as the three seed and would take on the Central Christian College of the Bible Saints in Moberly, Missouri on Wednesday. The Thunder would jump ahead early leading 15-7 after one quarter. The second quarter would be all Saints as they outscored the Thunder by 11 and would take a 26-23 lead into halftime. The Thunder would use a big third quarter to regain the lead 38-32 headed into the fourth. The Saints would have a shot to tie, but the shot would not fall and the Thunder would take down the two seed 49-46.

The Thunder shot 27.9% from the field, 9.5% from the three-point line, and 50.0% from the free throw line and force 25 Saint turnovers. Junior, Nekayla Williams would have a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while freshman, Austyn Cox had 13 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Freshman, Macayla Hines would chip in with eight points for the Thunder.

Tonight, the Thunder headed to Belton, Missouri to take on the reigning Central Region Champions, the Calvary Warriors, in the 2025 Central Region Championship. The Thunder and Warriors would be in a back and forth battle all game. The Thunder would have two shots at the end of the game to win or tie, but both would not go and the Thunder would fall short, 57-55.

The Thunder finish their season with a 13-15 record, a 6-6 Midwest Christian College Conference record, and a 7-3 mark in the region. They would finish fifth in the MCCC and runner-up in the Central Region.

Three Thunder Women's Basketball Players Represented on All-Region Teams

The Thunder women's basketball entered the 2025 NCCAA Central Region Tournament as the three seed and took down the host and two seed Central Christian College of the Bible on Wednesday night to advance to the Central Region Championship game. The Thunder had three players represented on the Central Region All-Ronference teams. Junior, forward, Nekayla Williams, who was a second-team All-Midwest Christian College Conference, would earn a first-team all-region honor. Williams would play in all 10 regular season region games, while starting in four. She would average 12.4 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game, 1.1 steals per game, 1.1 blocks per game, and shot 64.0% from the free throw line in region games only. Freshman, guard, Macayla Hines, who was honorable mention All-MCCC, would earn a second-team all-region nod for the Thunder. Hines would play in nine regular season region games, while starting in seven. She would average 10.1 points per game, 5.1 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, and 1.7 steals per game in region games only. Freshman, guard, Elayna Wegner would be the final Thunder player honored as she earned a honorable mention nod. Wegner would play in all 10 regular season region games, while starting in nine. She would average 6.9 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, and 1.9 steals per game in region games only.

The Thunder will play in the NCCAA Central Region Tournament Championship on Friday, February 28th against the one seed the Calvary Warriors. This game will be at 6:00 PM at the Pyramid Athletic Center in Belton, Missouri.

Two Thunder Women's Basketball Players Represented on All-Conference Teams

The Thunder women's basketball team finished fifth in the 2025 Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament this past weekend, and had some individual honors on the weekend as well. The Thunder had two players represented on the MCCC All-Conference teams. Junior, forward, Nekayla Williams would earn a second-team nod for the Thunder. Williams would play in all 12 regular season conference games, while starting in four. She would average 14.2 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, and shot 63.0% from the free throw line in conference games only. Freshman, guard, Macayla Hines would earn a honorable mention honor for the Thunder. Hines would play in 10 regular season conference games, while starting in eight. She would average 9.8 points per game on 37.1% shooting from the field and 31.8% shooting from the three-point line, to go along with 5.4 rebounds per game, 2.6 assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game in conference games only.

The Thunder will play in the NCCAA Central Region Tournament on Wednesday, February 26th against the host and two seed the Central Christian College of the Bible Saints. This game will be at 5:00 PM at the Ferneau Center in Moberly, Missouri.
