Recap: Women's Basketball Wins Central Region Tournament Semifinal Game; Falls Short in Region Championship
The Thunder women's basketball team entered the NCCAA Central Region Tournament as the three seed and would take on the Central Christian College of the Bible Saints in Moberly, Missouri on Wednesday. The Thunder would jump ahead early leading 15-7 after one quarter. The second quarter would be all Saints as they outscored the Thunder by 11 and would take a 26-23 lead into halftime. The Thunder would use a big third quarter to regain the lead 38-32 headed into the fourth. The Saints would have a shot to tie, but the shot would not fall and the Thunder would take down the two seed 49-46.
The Thunder shot 27.9% from the field, 9.5% from the three-point line, and 50.0% from the free throw line and force 25 Saint turnovers. Junior, Nekayla Williams would have a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while freshman, Austyn Cox had 13 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Freshman, Macayla Hines would chip in with eight points for the Thunder.
Tonight, the Thunder headed to Belton, Missouri to take on the reigning Central Region Champions, the Calvary Warriors, in the 2025 Central Region Championship. The Thunder and Warriors would be in a back and forth battle all game. The Thunder would have two shots at the end of the game to win or tie, but both would not go and the Thunder would fall short, 57-55.
The Thunder finish their season with a 13-15 record, a 6-6 Midwest Christian College Conference record, and a 7-3 mark in the region. They would finish fifth in the MCCC and runner-up in the Central Region.
