Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Thumps Central Christian (MO)

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team played their third match in five days on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Moberly, Missouri to take on Central Christian College of the Bible. The Thunder would thump the Saints and earn their third straight sweep and 10th of the season (25-17, 25-11, 25-12). Senior, outside hitter, Liv Lubbers would lead the way on offense with 15 kills, while sophomore, outside hitter, Ellie Wilson would chip in with 9. Freshman, Katie Drake would go 4-for-4 on offensive attacks. It was a well-rounded defensive effort by the Thunder as five players had at least six digs led by senior, libero, Abby Blake who had 10. The Thunder are now 16-1 overall, 8-0 in the Midwest Christian College Conference, and 7-0 in the NCCAA Central Region.

The Thunder will have a six day break before they play again. They will travel to Cottey College to play the Comets on Friday, October 10th at 6:00PM.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Dominates Union Adventist

Manhattan, Kan.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team were back home on Thursday night to take on Union Adventist in a NCCAA Central Region match. This is the second matchup of the season for the Thunder and Warriors, as the Thunder defeated the Warriors by way of sweep on September 4th in Lincoln, Nebraska. On Thursday night, it would be much of the same as the Thunder dominated the Warriors in straight sets (25-13, 25-7, 25-11). Five Thunder players had at least three kills led by sophomore, outside hitter, Ellie Wilson who had seven, while sophomore counterpart, Jayda Juenemann had six on eight attempts. Senior, middle hitter, Jacey Schurle would also chip in with six kills of her own. The Thunder would also have 15 aces as a team led by the trio of Natalie Jensen, Malloree Matlack, and Jaiden Brewer who all had three a piece. Jensen would also lead the team in digs on the night with 10. The entire roster for the Thunder would play and record a stat tonight. With the region win, the Thunder are now 15-1 overall and 6-0 in the region.

The Thunder will play their third game of the week on Saturday, October 4th when they travel to Moberly, Missouri to face Central Christian College of the Bible at 1:00PM in the Ferneau Center. The Thunder swept the Saints on September 19th in Manhattan, Kansas.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Defeats No. 5 Calvary

Belton, Mo.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team would travel to Belton, Missouri to take on the #5 ranked Calvary University Warriors on Tuesday night in a much anticipated Top-5 NCCAA matchup. With both team undefeated in Midwest Christian College Conference and NCCAA Central Region play, this match would give the winner sole possession of first place. The Thunder would sweep and defeat the Warriors to stand alone in first place (25-17, 25-22, 25-15). Senior, outside hitter, Liv Lubbers would have 17 kills on an efficient 0.316 attack percentage. Fellow senior, Jacey Schurle would have 12 kills to pace the Thunder. Jaiden Brewer and Ellie Suber would hold down the defense with 14 digs a piece, while Abby Blake would be close behind with 13 of her own. The Thunder have now moved to 14-1 overall, 5-0 in the MCCC, and 5-0 in the Central Region.

The Thunder will have another Central Region match on Thursday, October 2nd against Union Adventist at 7:00PM at Howie's Activity Center in Manhattan, Kansas. The Thunder swept Union Adventist on September 4th in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Wins Five Set Thriller Over Sterling

Sterling, Kan.

After dropping their first match of the season on Tuesday, the #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team hit the road to take on another NAIA opponent. Tonight's matchup was with a familiar opponent in the Sterling College Warriors. The Thunder played the Warriors on August 30th at the Thunder Invitational and would prevail 3-1 in Manhattan. In Sterling, Kansas, the Thunder would fight on to win a five set thriller on Friday night to find themselves back in the win column. In the first set, the Thunder would come out hot taking a 8-2 lead. The Warriors would tie it at nine before the Thunder went on a run of their own making the score 17-12. The Warriors would end the set on a 13-3 run to take the first set 25-20. The Thunder would regroup to take the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-21, respectively. A dominate fourth set by the Warriors would tie the match at two. A back and forth fifth set would end in favor of the Thunder who have now defeated the Warriors twice this season.

Three Thunder players would have double-doubles tonight. Senior, outside hitter, Liv Lubbers would have 22 kills to lead the attack for the Thunder to go along with 14 digs to record yet another double-double. Sophomore, setter, Ellie Suber also recorded a double-double with 48 assists and 11 digs, while fellow sophomore, Ellie Wilson would also have double digit kills and digs with 12 and 13, respectively. Senior, middle hitter, Hannah Beukelman would have a solid outing recording seven kills and four block assists. With the thrilling road victory, the Thunder move to 13-1 overall.

The Thunder will be back in action on Tuesday, September 30th with a Midwest Christian College Conference, NCCAA Central Region, and top-five matchup against the #5 ranked Calvary University Warriors in Belton, Missouri at the Pyramid Athletic Center.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Drops First Match of the Season to Friends

Manhattan, Kan.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team took their undefeated record into tonight's match against NAIA opponent, Friends University. Going into the match, the Thunder were 4-0 against NAIA competition. After falling behind 2-0, the Thunder would battle to win the third set 26-24. Long rallies would fall in favor of the visiting Falcons early on and give them the edge. The Thunder would fall behind 18-11 in the fourth set, but a 7-0 run would tie the set at 18. The Falcons would call a timeout and then would go on a 4-0 run to shift the momentum in their favor to close out the match 3-1 (22-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-21) and hand the Thunder their first loss of the season.

Four Thunder player would record double-digit kills led by sophomore, Ellie Wilson who had 14 with a 0.344 attack percentage and senior, Hannah Beukelman who had 13 with a 0.417 attack percentage. Seniors, Jacey Schurle and Liv Lubbers would chip in with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Along with the 10 kills, Lubbers would record another double-double with 12 digs on defense. Senior, Abby Blake would lead the defense with stellar effort recording 24 digs on the night.

The Thunder will play another NAIA opponent in Sterling College on Friday, September 26th at 6:00PM at the Gleason Center in Sterling, Kansas. The Thunder defeated the Warriors 3-1 on August 30th at the Thunder Invitational.

Thunder Volleyball Remains No. 1 in Recent NCCAA Coaches Poll

Manhattan, Kan.

With the win streak pushed to 12-straight wins to open the season, the Thunder volleyball team remains ranked #1 in the recent National Christian College Athletic Association Coaches Poll of the season for DII Women's Volleyball. With a total of 59 points, the Thunder are above Pensacola Christian College who jumped Arlington Baptist for the two spot. For the second straight poll, the Thunder are one of four teams from the Midwest Christian College Conference, but one of three teams from the NCCAA Central Region who are ranked in the week two poll. The Thunder will play two NAIA teams this week. Tonight, the Thunder will battle Friends University at 6:00PM at Howie's Activity Center in Manhattan, Kansas before traveling to Sterling, Kansas to play Sterling College on Friday, September 26th at 6:00PM in the Gleason Center.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Earns Two Wins, Moves to 4-0 in MCCC Play

Manhattan, Kan.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team played two matches this weekend against both Midwest Christian College Conference and NCCAA Central Region opponents. On Friday night, the Thunder would make quick work of Central Christian College of the Bible sweeping them 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-20). This would mark the seventh sweep of the season for the Thunder. The Thunder would have a balanced attack as four Thunder player would total at least six kills. Senior, outside hitter, Liv Lubbers would have 13 kills with a 0.407 attack percentage, while sophomore, Jayda Juenemann and freshman, Katie Drake would each have seven kills. Senior, middle hitter, Jacey Schurle would chip in with six kills. Junior, Jaiden Brewer, sophomore, Ellie Suber, and freshman, Cheyenne Crow would all have three aces each throughout the three set match.

On Saturday, rival Ozark Christian College would come to town receiving votes in the NCCAA Women's Volleyball Top-10 poll. After falling behind in the first set 7-0, the Thunder would drop the set to the Ambassadors, 25-23. The Thunder would settle in and take the final three sets to take the match and extend their win streak to 12. Four Thunder players would record at least 11 kills on the afternoon. Lubbers would have 16, Ellie Wilson and Hannah Beukelman would each have 12, and Schurle would tally 11. Redshirt-sophomore, Sienna Alexander would also have five aces to assist in the scoring. Lubbers would also have 16 digs to record a double-double, while Suber would as well with 48 assists and 13 digs. The Thunder move to 12-0 overall, 4-0 in the MCCC, and 4-0 in the Central Region. Their MCCC regular season win streak has also been extended to 60 straight matches.

The Thunder will take a break from NCCAA opponents and battle NAIA opponent Friends University on Tuesday, September 23rd at 6:00PM at the Howie's Activity Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
