Thunder Volleyball Finishes Regular Season Ranked No.1 in NCCAA Coaches Poll

Manhattan, Kan.

From the first regular season poll to the final regular season poll, the Thunder volleyball team is ranked #1 in the NCCAA Coaches Poll for DII Women's Volleyball. For the fourth time this season, with 60 points, the Thunder are unanimously ranked above Arlington Baptist University, Pensacola Christian College, Bob Jones University, and Alice Lloyd College to round out the Top-5. In the final regular season poll of the season, the Thunder are one of four teams from the Midwest Christian College Conference, and one of two teams from the NCCAA Central Region who are ranked in the final poll of the regular season. The Thunder will begin their quest for another trip to the NCCAA National Tournament on Thursday, November 6th when they host the Central Region Tournament at the Howie's Activity Center. They will play the winner of the Central Christian (MO) and Union Adventist match. Their match will be at 6:00PM on Thursday.

Thunder Volleyball Earns Five All-MCCC Selections

Manhattan, Kan.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team is coming off their seventh consecutive Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament Championship over the weekend. At the tournament, the All-MCCC teams were announced and the Thunder had five selections to the all-conference teams. Senior, outside hitter, Liv Lubbers would earn Conference MVP and First Team honors for the third year in a row. She was also a First Team selection as a freshman in 2022. Lubbers is second on the team in kills with 257 and has an attack percentage of 0.234. She has played in 82 sets, second on the team in digs with 235, and second on the team in aces with 38. Senior, middle hitter, Jacey Schurle would be named to the First Team for the second straight season. Schurle is third on the team in kills with 222 and leads the team in attack percentage at 0.427. She has played in 78 sets and leads the team in total blocks (50 assists, 17 solo). The final member that made the First Team was senior, libero, Abby Blake, who was a second teamer in 2024. Blake played in 78 sets and lead the team in digs with 357. Second teamers were sophomores, Ellie Suber and Ellie Wilson, both who earned these honors for the first time. Suber lead the team in assists with 876 and aces with 43. Wilson leads the team in kills with 263 and has an attack percentage of 0.302 from her outside position.

The Thunder will compete in the NCCAA Central Region Tournament on Thursday, November 6th and Friday, November 7th. This tournament will be hosted at the Howie's Activity Center on the campus of Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kansas. The Thunder will play the winner of the #4/#5 match between Central Christian (MO) and Union Adventist. That semifinal match will be played at 6:00PM on Thursday.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Captures Seventh Straight MCCC Tournament Title

Joplin, Mo.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team started postseason play on Friday with a semifinal match in the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament against Emmaus University. The Thunder were the one seed in the tournament and received a bye into the semifinal match. The Thunder and Eagles met only once in the regular season with the Thunder winning by way of sweep. On Friday evening, it would be much of the same as the Thunder would sweep the Eagles (25-17, 25-16, 25-17). Four Thunder player would have at least seven kills led by sophomore, outside hitter, Ellie Wilson who had 14 kills. She would also notch a double-double with 13 digs. Senior, middle hitter, Jacey Schurle chipped in with double digit kills as well with 11 on the night. Senior, Liv Lubbers would have a well-rounded match with seven kills, four aces, and seven digs. This would punch their ticket to the MCCC Tournament Final on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Thunder would face off with Faith Baptist Bible College for the second straight season for an opportunity to claim the tournament title. The Thunder and the Faith Eagles met only once in the regular season as well. For the seventh straight season, the Thunder would win the MCCC Tournament Championship and in dominate fashion (25-21, 25-22, 25-17). Wilson would have another double-double with 20 kills and 10 digs in the championship match. Sophomore, setter, Ellie Suber would combine for 68 total assists in the two matches to setup the Thunder's attack, while senior, libro, Abby Blake would have 30 total digs in two matches to lead the defense. At the conclusion of the MCCC Tournament, the Thunder are now 25-1 overall headed into the NCCAA Central Region Tournament.

The Thunder will host the NCCAA Central Region Tournament on Thursday, November 6th and Friday, November 7th. The Thunder will play the winner of the #4/#5 match at 6:00PM at the Howie's Activity Center.

Thunder Volleyball Looking to Continue Dominance into the Postseason

Manhattan, Kan.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team completed their regular season last Saturday with 23 wins and are looking for more this postseason. The Thunder will be the top seed in both the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament and the NCCAA Central Region Tournament. The MCCC Tournament seeds are as follows:

#1 Manhattan Christian

#2 Calvary

#3 Faith Baptist Bible

#4 Ozark Christian

#5 Emmaus

#6 Central Christian (MO)

Ozark Christian College will be hosting the MCCC Tournament on their campus. The Thunder will have a bye into the semi-final and will play the winner of the #4/#5 match. This match will be on Friday, October 31st at 7:00PM at the Multi-Purpose Building in Joplin, Missouri. The championship match will be on Saturday, November 1st at 2:00PM. The Thunder are looking to capture their seventh straight conference tournament championship.

The NCCAA Central Region Tournament will be hosted at the Howie's Activity Center on the campus of Manhattan Christian College. The Central Region Tournament seeds are as follows:

#1 Manhattan Christian

#2 Calvary

#3 Ozark Christian

#4 Central Christian (MO)

#5 Union Adventist

#6 Spurgeon (did not qualify)

The Thunder will also have a bye into the semi-final and again will play the winner of the #4/#5 match. This match will be on Thursday, November 6th at 6:00PM in Manhattan, Kansas. The championship match will be at 3:00PM on Friday, November 7th. The Thunder are looking to capture their fourth straight region tournament championship and an automatic bid to the 2025 NCCAA National Tournament.

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team closed out the regular season this weekend with matches on Friday and Saturday. On Friday night, the Thunder celebrated Senior Night with a match against Spurgeon. The Thunder honored five seniors after they would sweep the Knights to earn win 22 (25-10, 25-13, 15-7). Seniors, Abby Blake and Jacey Schurle have been a part of the Thunder volleyball program for two seasons, while Hannah Beukelman, Hali Clark, and Liv Lubbers have been in the program four year and are just four wins away from being the all-time winningest class in program history. The five senior would combine for 30 of the 43 kills on the night with only four attack errors. Blake and Lubbers would also have eight digs each, while Schurle, Beukelman, and Clark would combine for six blocks (one solo, five assists).

On Saturday, the Thunder would welcome the #8 ranked Calvary University Warriors to the Howie's Activity Center for a highly anticipated Top-10 matchup. This match would determine the top seed for both the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament and NCCAA Central Region Tournament. The Thunder would roll the Warriors and earn their second sweep of the weekend (25-9, 25-4, 25-20). Schurle would have 12 kills, Ellie Suber would have 34 assists, Ellie Wilson would have three aces, Blake would have 21 digs, and Clark would have three blocks (two solo, one assist) to lead those statistical categories, respectively. With the win the Thunder have claimed the #1 seed for both tournaments and extend their conference regular season win streak to 66 straight. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Thunder finish with a 23-1 overall record, 10-0 in the MCCC, and 12-0 in the Central Region.

The Thunder will compete in the MCCC Tournament on Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st in Joplin, Missouri as the #1 seed and will play the winner of the #4/#5 match.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Picks Up Win Over Randall

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team returned to NCCAA competition with out-of-region opponent Randall University. The Thunder would drop the first set to the Saints, but would dominate the final three sets to pick up the win (21-25, 25-7, 25-15, 25-17). The Thunder would come out hot in the first set, but the Saints would battle back to take the set. A commanding second set would set the tone for the rest of the match holding the Saints to a tied for season low seven points. The middle would take control of the offense as senior, Jacey Schurle would lead the Thunder with 17 kills, while fellow senior, Hannah Beukelman would have nine. The two would also combine for 11 blocks (one solo, 10 assists). Sophomore, Ellie Wilson would record a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs on the afternoon. With the win, the Thunder are now 21-1 overall headed in the final week of their regular season.

The Thunder will have their next match on Friday, October 24th, which will be Senior Night, at 7:00PM against Spurgeon College at the Howie's Activity Center in Manhattan, Kansas.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Falls in Exhibition Match to Stephens

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team was back home on Tuesday night for an exhibition match against NAIA opponent, Stephens College. The Thunder would be outmatched by the Stars and would be swept this evening. Jacey Schurle and Ellie Wilson would both have six kills a piece, while Ellie Suber and Abby Blake would have nine digs each. Since this was an exhibition match, this will not go against the Thunder's overall record. The Thunder finished with a record of 6-1 against NAIA opponents.

The Thunder will play again on Saturday, October 18th at 1:00PM against Randall University at the Howie's Activity Center in Manhattan, Kansas.

Recap: No. 1 Thunder Volleyball Gets Two Wins in Missouri, Earns 20th Win

The #1 ranked Thunder volleyball team took their final regular season roadtrip to play two matches in Missouri this weekend. On Friday evening, the Thunder played Cottey College for the second time this season. The Thunder and Comets met on August 29th at the Thunder Invitational where the Thunder would win in four sets. Friday would see the same result as the Thunder would defeat the Comets 3-1 to take the season series (24-26, 25-23, 25-15, 25-21). Three Thunder players would have double-digit kills led by sophomore, outside hitter, Ellie Wilson who had 14 kills, while senior, middle hitter, Hannah Beukelman would have 11 to pace the Thunder. Senior, Liv Lubbers would have a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore, setter, Ellie Suber would have a near triple-double with seven kills, 42 assists, and 11 digs on the night. Sophomore, Jaiden Brewer and freshman, Cheyenne Crow would have four and three aces, respectively, to chip in on the scoring.

On Saturday afternoon, the Thunder would travel further south to Joplin, Missouri to battle Midwest Christian College Conference and NCCAA Central Region rival, #8 Ozark Christian. The Thunder also defeated the Ambassadors earlier in the season at home by a score of 3-1. In the top-10 battle, the Thunder would sweep the Ambassadors on Saturday (25-22, 25-22, 25-14). Wilson would have a dominate match by recording 18 kills, while hitting a staggering 0.552 attack percentage on the afternoon. Seniors, Jacey Schurle and Hali Clark would combine for nine blocks (two solo, seven assists) to lead the defense, while Abby Blake would have 18 digs. With the two victories, the Thunder earned their 20th win to move to 20-1 on the season, 9-0 in the MCCC, and 10-0 in the Central Region.

The Thunder will play their final four matches at home starting with their final NAIA opponent, Stephens College, on Tuesday, October 14th at 5:00PM at the Howie's Activity Center in Manhattan, Kansas.

With a National Christian College Athletic Association Division II Volleyball leading 18 wins, the Thunder volleyball team stays ranked #1 in the third NCCAA Coaches Poll of the season for DII Women's Volleyball. For the second time this season, with 60 points, the Thunder are unanimously ranked above Arlington Baptist who jumped Pensacola Christian College for the two spot. In the third poll of the season, the Thunder are one of five teams from the Midwest Christian College Conference, but one of three teams from the NCCAA Central Region who are ranked in the week three poll. The Thunder will be on the road this weekend. Familiar NAIA opponent, Cottey College, will be their first test on Friday at 6:00PM in the Hinkhouse Center in Nevada, Missouri before traveling to Joplin, Missouri to battle rival, #8 Ozark Christian, at 12:00PM on Saturday.
