Recap: Thunder Women's Basketball Drops Home Contest to Randall

Manhattan, Kan.

The Thunder women's basketball team had the opportunity to tip it up in their first countable contest of the season. They played host to Randall University on Tuesday night in also their first National Christian College Athletic Association game of the year. The Thunder would find themselves down nine early, but would battle back to make it a 20-18 game at the end of one quarter. In the second quarter, the Saints would catch fire and outscore the Thunder 31-10 to take a 51-28 lead into the break. The Thunder would play a much better second half as they would outscore the Saints 34-26. The difference in the second quarter proved to be too much overcome and the Thunder would drop this one, 77-62.

The Thunder were lead in scoring by Nekayla Williams and Macayla Hines who each had 16 points a piece. Williams would also notch a double-double with 16 rebounds as well. Atira Davis would chip in with 11 points, while Elayna Wegner would have a near double-double with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Thunder would shoot 30.6% from the field, 30.8% from the three-point line, and 47.6% from the free throw line. With the loss, the Thunder open their season 0-1.

The Thunder will have their next game in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the Champion Classic hosted by Champion Christian College. They will play on Friday, November 7th at 5:00PM against another NCCAA Southwest Region team in the Dallas Christian College Crusaders.
